GENE LOUW STADIUM – MOORREESBURG
Moorreesburg Rugby Club, in collaboration with West Coast Sports Solutions, starts on Saturday September 23rd with an annual 7’s competition for U/19 rugby players. The name of the competition is very appropriate, “U/19 Heritage 7’s”
On day one, the group stage matches are completed, with the play-offs taking place on the Sunday 24th. The prize money amounts is R30 000, with the winning team walking away with an enormous R10 000. Entries are R250 per team, and 16 teams are challenged to come and show their talent.
Schools or Clubs who want to participate, are asked to send their email addresses via Whats App to 063 487 3657, after which details will be forwarded.
Cut-off time to participate in the tournament is August 31. 2023
BUT WHY WOULD YOU CARE?
This organization was founded three years ago to help less fortunate children or teenagers who excel in sports. When children are suddenly selected for their schools to participate in SA schools or provincial competitions, in many cases it comes with enormous expenses.
Many parents then cannot meet the needs of their children’s sports expenses such as sports equipment, clothing, or transport costs to and from sports events. Many children are then forced to stay at home, because parents cannot cover their expenses. In many cases the problem also arises with coaches, because not all schools have coaches in all sports.
Inquiries from parents to help their children have become a daily plea, especially during large school sports events. For example, four schoolboys from Vredenburg had to forego going on tour overseas with a rugby team. Although some of the parents approached WCSS, the organization’s finances were depleted.
So it is for these reasons that a big fundraising sports day should be held. It had to be held in Moorreesburg, because a rugby club from Hopefield was not available for negotiation. However, Moorreesburg Rugby Club’s management saw the need and agreed to support WCSS.
