Celebrations filled the coastal town of Port Nolloth this past weekend after the local primary school, Port Nolloth Primary, achieved a historic victory at the prestigious Kay Motsepe Schools Tournament, hosted in Kimberley.
The school’s Under-13 soccer team not only outplayed their opponents, and secured the impressive cash prize of R100,000. The winning price is a major contribution to the development of sport at the school. Representing the Namakwa region with pride, the team’s success left the entire community overjoyed.
One of the parents, Bernice de Klerk, shared her joy and gratitude: “This is a very big moment for our town and the whole region. Achievements like these are often not highlighted enough in the media, and that is why we ask that this victory be shared widely, for the sake of our children and their hard work.”
The young champions received a hero’s welcome when they returned home with their coach, Coach Vries. Excited parents and residents greeted them with dancing, singing, and joyful celebrations. According to reports, the school principal, Mr. H.M. Klim, officially honoured the team during Monday morning’s school assembly for their outstanding achievement.
Parents and staff confirmed that the R100,000 prize money will be used to improve the school’s sports facilities and further develop its sports programs.
