– Velddrif High – Joins District Upliftment Drive

30 May 2025 marked the beginning of a powerful new chapter for Velddrif High School, as the governing body officially signed a three-year collaboration agreement with Young Dynasty NPO.

This agreement offers learners a life-changing opportunity to discover and develop their artistic and cultural talents – with no cost to the school or its students.

Under this youth-focused partnership, learners will take part in a year-long talent development programme, culminating in performances at the Goedverwacht Family Festival.  A major community event designed to both uplift and inspire.

The project will also serve as a fundraising opportunity for the school, which will receive 25% of the net ticket sales from the Velddrif Rugby 7’s and Talent Shows, and other events hosted throughout the year.

In line with Young Dynasty’s commitment to rural youth, the organisation has partnered with Piketberg Youth Sport Development (NPO) and West Coast Sports Solutions (NPC) to roll out similar projects across the entire West Coast district.

The goal is clear to shift the narrative from talk to tangible action by unlocking rural talent that too often goes unnoticed.

A full programme of activities is already underway:

Weekend arts and talent development sessions at the Velddrif Sports Fields

To Participation in the Goedverwacht Family Festival, where local youth will share the stage with leading Cape Town artists

In partnership with JBC Foundation Starter Academy 7’s (Western Province), organisers of the prestigious Western Cape Sports Day, now in its 16th year. For the third consecutive year, West Coast Sports Solutions has been invited to bring rural talent to compete in this elite tournament, showcasing the best of our district’s young athletes.

Expanding the Vision – More Schools to Join the Talent Discovery Movement
In addition to Velddrif High School, a second rural school is currently being identified to join this exciting journey. The aim is for that school to also enter into a similar agreement, allowing it to host a Talent Discovery Day in its own town.

The long-term vision is to develop this into an annual partnership model with multiple rural schools — each becoming a hub for arts, music, and youth empowerment. By creating more platforms for young people to express their talent, we aim to motivate them to believe in themselves, dream bigger, and rise above the limitations often faced in small towns.

A rural music festival is being planned to follow the Mitchell’s Plain Music Festival, giving young West Coast artists a once-in-a-lifetime chance to share the stage with top Cape Town talent.

The driving forces behind this initiative, is Brilynn van Rooy (founder of Young Dynasty and Star Struck Records, a well-known music artist), including Mosvin Moore (Piketberg Youth Sport Development), and George C April (founder of West Coast Sports Solutions).

Their shared mission is simple yet powerful – Our youth don’t just need to be seen – they need people to uplift them.

Calling All Parents and Local Businesses – Join the Movement

We are calling on every parent in every school community, to walk this journey with us. Your encouragement, your time, and your support will make all the difference in shaping confident, inspired youth ready to pursue their dreams.

To our local businesses, we also need you.
