On Thursday, December 12. 2024, a magical Christmas celebration unfolded on West Fork Park in Hopefield, thanks to the kindness, generosity, and collaboration of a remarkable group of people and organizations.
It was a day the children will never forget, filled with laughter, joy, and the warmth of community spirit.
The LiTtLe team with the BiG team that made the day unforgettable for them.
A heartfelt thank you goes to Charlene and Bertrum Windvogel, founders of Helping Hands – NPO from The Conifers in Blue Downs, Eerste River, whose vision and dedication made this day a reality. Their tireless effort to create this wonderful experience for 50 children, aged 5 and 6 years old, was the driving force behind this heartwarming event.
Too flashy with their gifts.
We are deeply grateful to the sponsors from Shoprite Moorreesburg, Malmesbury, and Darling, whose generosity helped provide the resources needed to make the day so special. Your support touched many hearts, and we cannot thank you enough for your commitment to bringing smiles to the faces of these children.
A special thanks to Julies Transport Service in Hopefield, who ensured the children from Hopefield could travel safely and comfortably to the event, free of charge. With a 15-seater and a 22-seater van, the children were not only transported to West Fork Park, but also returned home safely, thanks to their kindness.

Andre and Jenny van Rooi from Androoi Engineering Solutions went above and beyond, not only generously offering their land for the event but also contributing as sponsors. Your kindness in making this day possible speaks volumes, and we are truly appreciative of all you’ve done. This is not the first time you have supported Hopefield’s children; last year, you also treated exceptional children from Hopefield Primary School to a memorable day of celebration.
Another heartfelt thanks to Davida Erasmus from Laaiplek, who went the extra mile to bring 15 children from her town on the West Coast to join in the festivities. Her commitment, and the help of the Laaiplek team, Megan Fransman, Lizaan Van Hooy, Lorraine Faroa, to ensuring that these children were part of this incredible event, reflects the true meaning of community.

The children were treated to a fun-filled day, complete with a jumping castle, trampoline, and water slide – all of which were thoroughly enjoyed. The delicious meals and the thoughtful gifts given to each child ensured that the day ended on a high note, leaving memories that will last a lifetime.Bertrum Windvogel, Andre van Rooi and Hannes van Wyk made sure that the meat, sausages and other delicacies were properly fried and ready for the special visitors.
This event would not have been possible without each and every person who contributed their time, resources, and love. Thank you all for making this Christmas celebration so extraordinary for the children of Hopefield and beyond.
You’ve not only created unforgettable memories for them, but you’ve also shown the power of compassion and the difference we can make when we come together.
