Storm Atkins, a 19-year-old rugby talent from Lambert’s Bay, has been making significant strides in his athletic career.
SA Sevens Selection
After matriculating from Huguenot High School in Wellington in 2023, he was selected for the South African Invitation Sevens team that toured Dubai from late November to December 3, 2024. Additionally, he was chosen for the South African Invitational Travel Academy team to participate in the World School’s Festival in December.
Track and Field Champion
Atkins has showcased his versatility by representing the Boland Central U18 rugby team and excelling in athletics, securing championships in the 100m, 200m, and 400m track events during his matric year.
Local and International Rugby
He currently plays for Lambert’s Bay Rugby Club Marines, in the Northwest Boland Union Senior Rugby Competition.. Known for his speed, footwork, and finishing ability, he has been described as a “dangerman” for any team he represents. In April 2024, Atkins participated in a rugby tournament in France, with his community raising funds to support his journey. Looking ahead, there have been discussions about opportunities to play for a local rugby team in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Versatile and Promising
Additionally, Atkins has been associated with the Rugby Travel Academy and has played in the Carlton U20 League under Centurion Rugby Klub. His journey has been featured in various publications, highlighting his potential to follow in the footsteps of notable players like Embrose Papier, who also hails from Lambert’s Bay.
